Basics
What is NoTrace.site mainly for?
NoTrace.site is mainly for fast message passing with a 5-character code.
It is especially useful when you need to move text between devices quickly or avoid logging into your personal chat or email accounts on the machine in front of you.
What is the difference between Standard and Burner notes?
Standard notes stay available until their timer expires.
Burner notes are meant for one-time reading. Burner mode is better when the note should disappear after it is opened.
Is NoTrace.site safe to use?
NoTrace.site is designed for short-lived notes, encrypted storage at rest, no-account workflows, and expiry-driven removal. It also uses security checks and rate limiting to reduce abuse. As with any tool for sharing sensitive text, you should still choose trusted channels for passing the code or link.
Are notes stored in encrypted form?
Yes. Notes are stored in encrypted form. The share experience is centered on the short code and share link you receive, while the internal storage details stay behind the scenes.
Can someone guess my 5-character code?
The service uses short-lived notes and rate limits to reduce abuse. The safest approach is still to send the code only to the intended recipient through a channel you trust.
Does the QR option send my link to a third-party QR service?
No. The QR option is generated locally in your browser, so the note link does not need to be sent to an outside QR provider just to create the code.
How are IP addresses handled?
Infrastructure may temporarily process IP addresses for security checks and rate limiting. They are not part of the note-sharing experience you see on the site, and the service does not require a user account.
What happens if I forget the code?
If you lose both the code and the link before retrieving the note, the practical answer is to create a new note. NoTrace.site is designed for temporary handoffs, not account-based recovery.
How do I contact NoTrace.site?
You can contact NoTrace.site through the contact page or by emailing support@notrace.site.
General questions, bug reports, abuse or misuse reports, and business enquiries all go through the same support address so there is one clear contact path.

Sharing
Why use NoTrace.site on a public computer?
NoTrace.site lets you move one message without logging into your personal chat or email accounts on a shared machine. That makes it handy for labs, libraries, and office desktops where you only need a quick text handoff.
Why not just use WhatsApp Web?
WhatsApp Web is fine if you want your full conversation and you are comfortable signing in on the device. NoTrace.site is simpler when the goal is just to move one message without opening your personal account there.
Can multiple people read the same note?
Standard notes can be opened more than once until they expire. Burner notes are for one-time reading, so they are not the right choice if several people need to revisit the same note.
What if an email scanner opens a Burner link first?
If a security scanner opens a Burner link before the intended recipient does, the note may already be gone when the recipient arrives. In cases like that, sharing the 5-character code directly can be the safer option.
Can I use Burner mode for API keys or access tokens?
Yes. Burner mode is a good fit for API keys, access tokens, reset codes, or first-login credentials that only need to be viewed once and then disappear.
Can Burner mode work for a first-open gift card or giveaway?
Yes. If the first person to open the note should get the reward, Burner mode gives you a natural first-open workflow for gift cards, giveaways, and other one-time claims.
Is there a size limit for notes?
Yes. Notes currently support text up to 50,000 characters, which is enough for long messages and many short snippets while still keeping the service focused on quick text handoffs.
Can I send files or images?
NoTrace.site is currently focused on text. If you need file storage or attachment workflows, you will need a tool built for that.
Fit
When should I not use NoTrace.site?
NoTrace.site is not the right tool for long-term storage, collaborative editing, or file sharing. It works best for short-lived text handoffs.
Is this a Pastebin replacement?
It can replace Pastebin for some temporary text snippets, especially when you want a short code and expiry. It is not meant to be a long-term archive of code.
Is NoTrace.site a Privnote alternative?
Yes, especially if you want a 5-character code and optional Burner mode. That makes it a good fit for quick, practical note handoffs.
Can I use NoTrace.site for private personal messages or personal notes?
Yes. NoTrace.site works well for private personal messages, personal notes, and other short-lived text you would rather not leave in a long chat history. Burner mode is the better fit if the note should disappear after the first read.
What is the best use case for NoTrace.site?
The strongest use case is simple, temporary text sharing across devices, especially on shared computers where signing into your personal accounts is more friction than the task deserves.
