How Temporary Notes Work
NoTrace.site is designed for one narrow job: move a temporary note from one place to another with as little friction as possible. You create a note, get a 5-character code or link, and open it on the other device. This is short code note sharing with Burner mode explained in plain language, so you can choose between a standard timed note and one-time reading.
Step 1: Create the note
Start on the Create page, write the text you want to share, and choose how long it should remain available. This is useful when the message is temporary and the current workaround feels heavier than the job.
Step 2: Get a 5-character code or link
Once the note is created, NoTrace.site gives you a short code and a shareable link. The short code is what makes the workflow stand out: it is easy to type, easy to say aloud, and convenient when you are moving text between devices quickly.
| Task | NoTrace.site | Email or Chat | Cloud Docs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5-character code access | Yes | No | No |
| No account required | Yes | Usually no | Usually no |
| Built for temporary handoffs | Yes | Sometimes | No |
Step 3: Choose Standard or Burner
A standard note stays available until the timer ends. Burner mode is stricter: it is meant for notes that should disappear after the first read. Standard is better when the recipient may need to reopen the note. Burner is better for one-time secrets, private messages, and first-open reward links.
Why this helps on shared computers
This workflow is especially practical on lab PCs, library computers, classroom desktops, and other shared devices. Instead of opening your email or chat account just to move one piece of text, you can create the note, copy the code, and finish the handoff without turning it into a full login session. If that is your main use case, see shared computer note sharing.
When not to use NoTrace.site
NoTrace.site is not a collaboration suite, long-term notes app, or password manager. If the note needs to stay available for ongoing editing, shared records, or recurring team access, use a tool built for those workflows instead.
